Practical lesson. Quizzing. Round table discussion.

Plan (Contents) of the lesson

  1. Theoretical bases of phraseological units (definition, types, semantics, cultural background) and problems of their translation;

  2. Types of phraseological correspondences in translation:

1) complete phraseological correspondences;
2) partial phraseological correspondences;
3) the absence of phraseological correspondences.



The aim of the lesson: Developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills on phraseological problems of translation; expanding theoretical knowledge and developing skills on the issues of rendering phraseological units; expanding knowledge and developing skills on the identification of types of phraseological correspondences.



Pedagogical objectives

The results of training activity

  • Expanding knowledge about the phraseological problems of translation;

  • Deepening and developing knowledge on the types of phraseological correspondences between SL and TL;

  • Expanding knowledge and developing skills needed for identification of complete phraseological correspondences;

  • Expanding knowledge and developing skills needed for identification of partial phraseological correspondences;

  • Expanding knowledge and developing skills needed for identification of the absence of phraseological correspondences.




  • Systematizing data on phraseological problems of translation;


  • Clarifying the main factors characterizing the types of phraseological correspondences between SL and TL;


  • Clarifying the cases illustrating complete phraseological correspondences between SL and TL;




  • Clarifying the cases illustrating partial phraseological correspondences between SL and TL;


  • Clarifying the cases illustrating the absence of phraseological correspondences between SL and TL and identifying the techniques for translation of non-equivalent phraseological units.
